CHARLIE & SISSY
|
Social Worker Comments
Charlie and Sissy have been happily married for almost five years and both eagerly anticipate raising a child in their loving home. They describe their marriage as strong and they each feel blessed to have found each other. Charlie and Sissy like watching movies together and enjoy socializing with family and friends, and they especially enjoy having friends and family over to their home for cookouts and board games. Charlie’s personal hobbies include playing softball, a friendly version of Texas Hold ‘Em Poker, fantasy baseball and fantasy ootball with his friends. Along with reading and cooking, |
|
Sissy’s personal hobbies include making crafts and decorations. Charlie and Sissy are described as being people with giving hearts and a strong dedication to God and helping others. Charlie and Sissy hope to adopt a newborn or child no older than twelve months, or twins, preferably healthy or with minor medical needs, with no preference of gender. They would welcome a child with an ethnic heritage of White, Hispanic, Hispanic/White, American Indian, American Indian/White, Asian or Asian/White.
Dear Birthmother,
|
We know this time can’t be easy for you, but we are pleased that you are choosing life for your child. There is so much we want to say in this letter - the most important being this: your child will know that the choice you made was out of love. We can’t imagine how these months must feel to you; filled with both anticipation and sorrow. In this letter, we hope you’ll get to know us better so you may feel comfortable placing your child in our hands…our home…our hearts.
Our family consists of Charlie (34), Sissy (32) and our two dogs: Phoebe and Lucy. We met at church and had quite a whirlwind courtship: we started dating in November and Charlie proposed in January. Then we were married in July! It may have been fast, but this year we will celebrate five happy years of marriage. We are eagerly anticipating adding to our family through adoption.

Charlie graduated college with a degree in Biblical Studies and spent a few years as a Children’s Pastor before switching gears in the ministry. He is now a Media Director for a local church and mostly spends his time with computers! He designs all the churches’ advertisements, banners, printed materials and runs all of the audio/video during the weekly services. He has worked for the church for over six years and has cultivated quite a family there. Charlie has been on multiple overseas missions trips including: Mexico (3x’s), Panama (2x’s), Russia. He also led a local missions outreach to Maryland a few years ago. In his spare time he coordinates a Men’s Fantasy Football league and enjoys the fellowship that group provides. It gets quite competitive, but the men love it.

Sissy fell in love with two things as a child: art and books. She studied Art Education in college and taught high school Art for six years. While teaching, Sissy sponsored three trips abroad and took groups of students to Italy, Spain, England, Greece and France. These trips taught her so much about the world and all the things she wants her own children to learn about. She loved the students at the high school, but ended up looking for a smaller school and is now a full-time Librarian for a charter school, where she spends her days reading to students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. It is her great joy to make books come alive for her students! She also loves to craft, paint, decorate and take photographs. It has been a special joy of hers to begin decorating the nursery, even saving a rocker/reclining chair from her late father to use with the baby. At church she volunteers for the Help Desk Ministry, answering questions and assisting visitors.
Adoption has been on Sissy’s mind since she was young, and she brought it up to Charlie when we were dating. Somehow we knew that adoption would be part of our journey, and so dealing with infertility did not really come as a surprise. We believe God planted those seeds early as a blessing to us. It doesn’t mean that the road has been easy, but we trust God has a plan to bring us joy. We believe that families are created by the One who has created everything.
Our families have been really excited about this adoption! All of Charlie’s family lives close by and his family is growing. His parents live in town. His brother (Chad) and wife (Katie) welcomed twins this year: Payden and Cheyenne. His other brother (Craig) and wife (Christal) also had baby: Harrison. His sister (Jessica) got married in September and lives with her husband a few towns away from us. Sissy’s brother (Drew) got married in June. He and his wife live in Florida. Her other brother (Rich) lives across the country in Oregon. Sissy’s mom moved to North Carolina this year from Florida. Her dad passed away ten years ago. It’s been a busy year, but the entire family is looking forward to another baby to add into the mix. We know they will be supportive with their time, their love and their hand-me-downs!

We live in an established neighborhood surrounded by parks, playgrounds and Harris Teeter grocery stores. We have a charming three bedroom, two bath house with a great kitchen and a lot of character. Sissy has filled the house with color - a rich, red kitchen with maple cabinets and granite countertops; a mocha-painted master bedroom with a chocolate colored door hanging on the wall above the master bed; the turquoise nursery with antique white dresser and matching crib - and the colors change all the time (that’s the artist in her!) The house was built in 1961 and has so much to offer, including a walk-up attic that runs the length of the house. Eventually we want to renovate the attic into a finished second level. Our neighborhood is a quiet, safe place to live. One of the reasons we picked this house was because the schools are really great.

We have a close circle of friends in town. Many are from church or small group and some are from Sissy’s college days. The past few years have been filled with bridal showers, weddings and baby showers as our friends begin to settle down and start their own families. We know they will be happy for us as we welcome your little one into our home. In fact, we have several church family friends who have adopted children. It is only through God’s grace that we |
know you can even consider parting with your baby and we are so blessed that you are reading about us. It takes courage to consider adoption and we promise that your child will know about you and how difficult this choice had to be for you.
We pray that God’s peace will surround you in the coming months as you make these life-changing decisions. We hope this letter helped you get to know us a little better, and that it provides you with the security to move on. These few words may never really be enough of a comfort, but we believe that our Lord can embrace you and bless you for choosing life for your baby. He is wonderful and marvelous and never ceases to amaze us with His glory. May He shine down upon you in this season. |
With love ,
Charlie & Sissy
